We are The Japan Association of Cooking for Foreigners (https://cookingforeigners.org/), an association that looks to bring Japanese cooking classes to foreigners all over the world.
We look to introduce home made Japanese food to students in English, and at the moment we have opened 110 franchises in Japan and overseas.
Our main goal is [Creating an environment where real Japanese people teaching real Japanese homemade food to foreigners] and we do so by training instructors and managing classrooms.
We run classes that are attended by more than 1000 foreign students each year.

However, because of Corona, we've heard from many foreigners things such as, "I can't go to Japan, but I want to learn how to cook real Japanese food!" and "I want to experience Japan even if it's just a little bit".
As well as this, there are a large amount of Japanese people that wish to travel abroad but can't.
Therefore we want to launch [Tabicook], a site that will let you travel the world via cooking! By staying at home, you can learn about local ingredients, culture, and traditions from Japanese people and vice versus.
All instructors are able to speak both English and Japanese, and for those that aren't fluent in English, you can experience in Japanese!
We hope that you can support us in this crowdfunding project!

About Washo Cook / The Japan Association of Cooking for Foreigners

About 13 years ago, I stayed in New Zealand in a little seaside lodge that was run by a married couple. They introduced me to a variety of seafood taken from the sea in front of the lodge.
They cooked for me and while it was simple home-made food, it made me feel like I was not a traveller but someone that lived in the area.
It affected me deeply, and I came to a conclusion that I wanted to offer this type of experience to others. I wanted to broaden home-made Japanese food around the world. I wanted people to learn more about the real side of Japan, and in 2014, I launched Washo Cook Co. ltd.

The initial concept was simple, [A home-made dish anyone can make in 20 minutes]

We then moved on to create a certification program that enabled us to expand classrooms all around the world, having instructors who can Japanese food to foreigners, and currently we have about 110 teachers around the world.

However, this past year, we have had an influx of people with various comments and inquiries such as

「I want to learn about Japanese food but I can’t visit Japan」

「Is it possible to get a taste of Japan at home?」

as well as from many Japanese people that wish to travel abroad but can not.

With that in mind, we have started the process of creating “Tabicook”, a virtual travel site, which lets you travel the world via cooking lessons from local cooks, learning about different local cuisine.

「Tabicook」Site:https://washocook.com/tabicook/

What’s more you will be able to learn about local ingredients, culture, and traditions while you cook!

All instructors are able to speak English and Japanese, and students that can’t understand English well can follow along in Japanese!

What Washo Cook Excels at

1.Opening a Japanese Cooking Class for foreigners

①This is a simple cooking class that teaches foreigners how to cook Japanese food at home in English!

We have 3 studios for teaching in Tokyo, Kanagawa, Osaka, and we teach people how to cook a dish in 20 minutes using seasonal ingredients.

Most recipes are really simple and well liked by all.

②In 2017 the start of the [Kyaraben] or character bento.

By infusing Japanese traditional food culture, with anime culture, we were able to create an extremely popular program with foreigners.

More than 1000 foreigners participate annually.

Why turn to crowdfunding?

There are many foreigners that can’t come to Japan due to the coronavirus, with their main purpose being the ability to try Japanese food.

Because of these we want to give people all over the world the feeling of travelling by teaching them to prepare and enjoy Japanese food while at home.

Since there are no foreigners currently able to come to Japan, we want to try to use crowdfunding to help raise the money necessary to create this site.

How we'll use the money raised

We will be using this crowdfunding project to raise money to help create the site as well as advertise it as well as bringing chefs from all around the world to the site.

We also want to use it to help train and educate others so that they can hold online classes.

Finally we want to use some of the money raised to help contribute to operating costs.

We want to make a site that you can use to experience different cultures from all over the world!

Then when the world opens up a little more, we want to give you the opportunity to join face to face classes, so you can experience the culture directly when you travel!

Thank you for your support!
