Many types of frying pan are flat, which means that for liquid like food, like eggs, they overflow everywhere and cook quite thinly. With the Marutto Pan, you can use it to cook this types of food to your standard, meaning you can get the texture you desire! The Marutto Pan is a fry pan that has a slight concave bottom, letting the user cook while any food gathers near the middle of the pan.

With a normal frying pan, beaten eggs normally cook thinly and solidify into a really thin omelette or scrambled eggs.  With the Marutto Pan, we can gather the eggs into the centre of the pan, letting it cook slower, opening the options of what we want to do with the eggs up.

With the Marutto Pan, because of its small concave shape, it also allows for the eggs to collect in one place, meaning that even if your egg white breaks on impact with the pan, you can still make a nicely cooked fried egg to your taste.

A main staple in the preparation of Chinese dishes is the way that the chefs are able to deftly use oil in their cooking. They often use a large and unstable pan to help the food dance and cook to perfection. This pan is the secret to many amazing dishes. With oil being able to gather in one place, it allows for the eggs to cook easily, and for each grain of rice to be mixed in with this egg, creating a delicate balance between crunchiness and softness, making a brilliant dish of fried rice.

Even without being a pro in the kitchen, you can make amazing French omelettes with ease. Choose any amount of eggs, even one for that delectable mini-omelette, and make perfect omelettes every time.

Just hold diagonally, and flip with ease to get that lovely runny inside that makes good omelettes great!

Aluminium is an amazing heat conductor, about 3 times more than normal iron. It helps when creating a great browning colour on foods.

What’s more, with the concave shape it helps to create perfect circular shapes, giving them the extra café look!

Lid not included with the Marutto Pan

You can use the whole diameter of 24cm to cook, meaning that you can create large quantities of tasty food!

When making Camarones al ajillo or other oil fried fish, the right pan size is needed to create this delicious dish. Because of the shape of the Marutto Pan, you can still cook these dishes without needing to change to a smaller pan. Save washing up multiple pans with this pan!

With a depth of 8cm, you can make enough for the whole family! Use it for not just frying but also soups and stews as well!

As the inner rim of the Marutto Pan has a slight edge, it makes it hard for liquids and so on to boil over, preventing spillage!

With a specially thick base, it means that the pan has a great heat retention. When compared with a frying pan of comparable size, you can use half the oil you normally would!

A look behind the tech of the Marutto Pan:

We use the latest image analysis to map the way the aluminium sets in our traditional casting techniques. From there we can work on how these traditional casting processes can be improved, literally mixing the traditional tech with todays modern technology.

Unlike traditional woks, the Marutto Pan is flatter at the bottom and is more stable. The shape of the pan is actually quite complicated and can not be made with ordinary press moulding. We use molten aluminium and mould and cast it and create with precise engineering ability the perfectly shaped pan.

Environmentally Friendly Solutions

We utilize the environmentally friendly metal "Aluminium Recycled Bullion". Recycled Aluminium bullion is an environmentally friendly metal that reduces CO2 emissions.  In order to create aluminium from scratch, it takes a large amount of energy to just smelt the raw material. "Aluminium Recycled Bullion" can used in the manufacturing of the pans saving about 97% of the energy used, helping us to cut the carbon emissions that would normally be used to smelt raw aluminium.

Recycling efforts

We also use recycled materials such as office furniture and building materials for items manufactured in-house. Pots and pans that are no longer needed are disassembled at the factory into recycled aluminium. Non-recyclable materials such as iron and stainless steel are widely used in the metal processing industry in Takaoka City.

Our pans are created using  trademark technology - Cast®. The pans are created with a uniquely formed crystalline structure by casting it in a specially made mould and leaving it to naturally form and harden. This lets the outer layers have amazing heat conduction at the same time as being tough. It also means that the inside forms slowly when cast, and it lets it have the amazing properties of holding heat. With these two complimenting parts, it means that it is an amazing piece of equipment for all homes.

Many manufacturers in the west use stainless steel as a base plate for their pans, which have a low rate of power transference (in this case the transfer of heat), which means that there is a higher chance of warping due to heat, meaning that many pans can not be certified with the Japan Safe Goods Mark. Our Marutto Pan however can meet these standards, and are certified to be safe for IH hobs as well as gas hobs.

Teflon™ is a coating that has been used by a wide variety of makers all over the world for over 50 years.

You can see the difference in the quality of the pancakes which is due to the heat conduction of the pan.

<The pans compared are actually both from us >

A feature of frying pans created using cast aluminium is the amazing heat uniformity.

Even when taken off the heat, the pan stays hotter for longer, letting you to still cook with the residual heat.

<Compared with plate frying pan that we make>

The Marutto Pan works on both induction heating and gas stoves! It is 24cm in diameter, and holds up to 3 litres.

In May 1930, Saburo Arai, the founder of Hokuriku Aluminium Co., Ltd., established Hokuriku Aluminium Appliances Mfg. Co., Ltd. using the technology of Takaoka’s  Copperware makers. We started manufacturing daily necessities such as pots and kettles using cast aluminium, and after the post-war economic recovery and the expansion of aluminium demand due to the growth of the Japanese economy, we established a production line based on excellent metal processing technology in Takaoka. It has been about 90 years since the company was founded. Hokuriku Aluminium is working on the manufacturing of Made in Takaoka as one of the few comprehensive manufacturers of aluminium products in Japan that produces various products other than daily necessities.

This Project is promoted by Japankuru Funding, Bringing Japanese Products to the West!

Risks and challenges

We have tested extensively since we created the prototype mould. We can now move on to start mass production trials, and then prepare for the amount of pans needed compared with the number of backers for the project. Unlike normal frying pans, the mass production process is quite different, and we can't create many in a short amount of time. As the pan that is pictured is the prototype, there may be some changes to the design. In regards to import fees, these are handled on the side of the backer. Please be aware of this before backing.

Environmental commitments

Long-lasting design

The coating of the pan is the strongest type of Teflon - Platinum Plus. This means that it is scratch proof and has several layers of coating to reinforce this. As well as this, the pans are made from aluminium, a rather durable metal, great for pans.

Reusability and recyclability

Our pans are made to be long lasting, usable for years. By creating these types of pans, we can hope to help reduce waste as people don't need to buy lots of pans over the years.

Sustainable materials

We utilize the environmentally friendly metal "Aluminium Recycled Bullion". Recycled Aluminium bullion is an environmentally friendly metal that reduces CO2 emissions. In order to create aluminium from scratch, it takes a large amount of energy to just smelt the raw material. "Aluminium Recycled Bullion" can used in the manufacturing of the pans saving about 97% of the energy used, helping us to cut the carbon emissions that would normally be used to smelt raw aluminium.
