A new type of outdoor wood burner not seen until now, letting you enjoy a special aurora like flame
Why is it that when people look at fire and flames as they dance, our hearts calm and become peaceful?
When the end of the day comes, and it comes time to be alone, or with friends and family, being in front of a fire seems to just melt the time in an instant.
All just from staring and watching the flames float and dance. It may be one instance where a person can find bliss.
The Firegraphix Wood Burner looks to bring relaxation back. Of course it is here to keep your body warm, but as you listen to the crackling of the logs, the smell of the burning wood, and of course the dancing of the flames, it is also obvious that it is here to warm your soul as well, letting you relax. We made this for people that aren’t able to have a large wood burner at home, or those that wish to get an extra burner for a different room or for a balcony. It’s also there for those that know the wonderful charms of wood burners and want to be able to enjoy one while they go camping. Thanks to the Firegraphix Bliss Wood Burner’s small and portable size, all of the above types of people can enjoy this type of wood burner!
The main points of the Firegraphix Bliss Wood Burner are:
・It has all the functionality of a large style home wood burner
・A simple design that fits any household
・Creates aurora like flames, while also burning in a way that is kind to the environment.
Different from normal wood burners that are used on camping trips that just burn wood, the Firegraphix Bliss is more efficient at burning wood, while also having a two step chimney system to make the burning process much cleaner, which means that if you attach the chimney, you can even use it at home. By burning the gas that is emitted during the first burning process, the smoke that is emitted is cleaner so you don’t need to worry, and can feel free to use it on a balcony. What’s more, while we say that it is small, if you choose to get the grill stand, the inside is large enough to cook pizza in.
One of the biggest selling points of the FIREGRAPHIX, is the way you can watch as the fire dances and burns like an aurora. As the fire gets going, the fire looks like it is aurora, hanging from the ceiling of the burner. As the inside of the burner is sealed tightly, by making us of the rear intake valves, the gas from the logs that hasn’t been combusted will light and help to create this wonderful display. The flames that appear are rough looking, violent flames, but appear to be more majestic, dancing inside the burner. Many may think that super vigorous flames means a hotter flame, but flames that move slowly but use a two step combustion are actually hotter.
Like large size wood burners, a 34 x 18 cm glass screen is used, which is made from heat resistant glass, and it is hard for this screen to become cloudy or for soot to stick to it. You can watch the fire as it rolls and dances just like you would be watching TV. This is due to a special air curtain that occurs as warm air falls in front of the glass screen. This happens as air flows into the air intake on the back of the burner, warms up as it goes through a vent up the back of the burner, and then falls down the front of the glass.
Don’t you find it annoying when you need to top up a fire as it dies out frequently?
With the FIREGRAPHIX BLISS, firewood will last longer relieving you of this problem! Not compromising on the portability of the burner, letting you take it outdoors with you when you go camping, the BLISS allows for better control over the air going into the burner which is circulated via vents, as well as being sealed tightly, meaning that the wood that goes in is able to burn for longer.
When using the FIREGRAPHIX BLISS, after placing the logs in to burn, make sure you lock the door. By doing so, you allow for a 2 step burning process to occur, as the excess gas that is produced by the firewood is trapped in the chamber and is then combusted. This in turn helps with the burn time of the wood, and improves the efficiency of the wood burner itself.
As the stove when shut is made to be airtight, there are levers on the back and front that allows you to control air intake. This is similar to larger scale stoves, where you can control the amount of air that goes into the combustion area. This allows for a 2 step combustion to occur.
The embers if left in the burner still have a warming effect. If left to burn overnight, the embers should leave some leftover charcoal which can be used as a fire lighter the next time you go to make a fire.
When you use the burner it should be obvious, but the smoke that is released has no colour to it. This is due to the 2 step combustion that occurs, where the gas and soot that is released from the burning of the firewood is also burnt, leading to cleaner emissions.
Normally in other burners, unburnt gas and so on would be released from the chimney as smoke. With the FIREGRAPHIX BLISS, this gas and so on is burnt as it is released, which allows for the consumption of the firewood to be slowed as well. The burning of the gases and so on released by the burning of the wood also allows for an extra heating effect. 90% of the miniscule particles that would be released as smoke, such as carbon monoxide, pollutants, and so on are burnt, reducing the impact that it would have on the environment.

I have fallen in love with the BLISS! I’ve tried various other small sized portable wood burners, but you can’t fit larger pieces of firewood inside, which means you need to put smaller pieces inside which then in turn burn quicker, meaning you have to keep adding firewood more often. With the BLISS you can use bigger pieces, letting you relax longer.
Another point that I love with this is with other burners from other companies, the glass seems to get super dirty really quick, but with the BLISS, you can see the flames even after a long period of use!

I used it in my tent and I was able to be warm in just a t-shirt! When compared to an oil burner or a gas burner, as the smoke goes directly outside using the chimney, the air quality in the tent was much cleaner. I was also able to test this using a carbon monoxide checker.
A large wood burner at the lighter end of the scale would be about 60kg, however the Firegraphix Bliss is about 17kg (with the stainless steel version being about 19kg). You can get yourself a bag as an addon which you can use to carry it your campsite or wherever you wish to place it.
The overlay chimney is broken down into 5 pieces which can fit into each other, with a max dimension of 35cm x 11cm x 11cm, letting you store them easily.
For this project, we have changed the metal we use to be a stainless steel, which allows for the flames to be more radiant as they dance in the burner. It is more resistant to rusting, which also suits it better for outdoor use, as well as being better for reflecting heat than the black iron version.
<Stainless steel update>
●An insulating cover is applied to both sides.
●The lever to open the air intake has been widened. As the amount of air that it intakes has increased, it is easier to control the flames.
・【21cm → 31cm】In order to make it easier for you to see the flames, the stand has been made taller.
・【6kg→4.9kg】The weight has also been decreased!
The matte black finish on the black version has a subdued feel to it, and this is done thanks to the heat resistant coating that is applied and then dried at 180°C. The silver version allows for the fire to look like it is dancing and glittering even more! With a mix between the handmade handle, the punched vents, and so on, the FIREGRAPHIX Bliss as a product is made to look stylish as well as have a sense of functional product design. The black version uses an iron of about 1.2mm that is durable, and has a sense of quality to it while also being very cost effective. In order to help with the air tight sealing and durability, it has been painted with a thermal resistant coating that has then been dried to 180 degrees. The silver version has been made with portability and design in mind, with stainless steel being the material used.
※Please note that discoloration or distortion may naturally occur upon use of the stove, but will in no way hinder its functioning.
On the front and back of the main body are levers that are used to control the air flow intake. These are marked with a "C" for closed and "O" for open, and you can control each.
The matte black version's handle is made one by one by skilled craftsmen to be easy to hold while also being of a high quality.
The silver version comes with a leather grip to use on the handle. This not only helps to protect against the heat, but also looks great when contrasted against the silver body.
While being a compact burner, the actual combustion space is rather large. You can fit 3 logs of firewood that measure 35 cm in length inside. With the special cooking grill stand as well, you can fit a 12” pizza inside with ease to make woodfired pizzas!
As the chimney stack is attached on the back of the main body, this allows for you to use the top of the burner as a hot plate! With a 40cm x 38cm area, you can fit a kettle and a pan together with ease. The top plate gets to a temperature of about 350°C.

One part of wood burners that is extremely important is without a doubt the chimney. Not only are they important for the venting of smoke, they are important for making an updraft in burners that have a strong seal, creating an important rise in air flow, allowing for the fire to be stronger. We are lucky to have an amazing crafting team that has been able to create a brilliantly high quality chimney.
What’s more, with using the burner outside in mind, the chimney is separated, and nests easily within each other, with it being a perfect size to fit inside the burner itself.

How to clean the ashes
We start from when the fire has completely extinguished. The BLISS has been made so that it is simpler to clean, with the door being removable. By opening the door to about 45 degrees and lifting it up, you should be able to remove the door. Please leave a light layer of ash when cleaning. This helps to reduce the risk of rusting that may occur until the next time you use the burner.
How to clean the glass
We highly recommend you use glass cleaner made for stoves. For those that can’t get hold of this cleaner, taking a soft cloth, wipe the glass removing the white ash that has stuck to it. Please do this after the stove has cooled to room temperature.
How to use the stove for a long time
Please use firewood that has been dried. If you don’t use wood that hasn’t been dried properly, a lot of smoke will be created which then sticks to the glass and inside of the burner, as well as the chimney. Please don’t remove all the ash from inside the burner, and instead spread it around the stove. By doing so, it can help to resist rusting, as well as being helpful in starting the fire. We recommend oak and cherry blossom as firewood. They don’t work well as fire starting wood but they are great for keeping it burning for a long time. For wood to start the fire we recommend pine tree wood such as Japanese cedar or hinoki cypress, which is easy to start but also burns quickly and rather hot. By breaking the wood up, it can be used to start the fire with ease. Having a temperature gauge can be helpful as you can measure and adjust the temperature in the stove easily.

『FIREGRAPHIX』 is a brand from Kotobuki Sangyo, a company that was founded over 50 years ago, and that prides itself on its sheet metal and coating skills. Using the knowhow of a stove maker in Kamakura, and the idea of “due to the pandemic, we must change as a manufacturer”, we created our first portable wood burner.
We received a request for a TV interview in June 2020, and when they came to look at the stove, the first thing that the interviewer said was, “I thought I was looking at video recording!”. From there our brand name was born, combining fire and graphics to make Firegraphix.
Wood burning stoves are said to have their home in Europe, but here in Japan, we have focused on making these amazing items smaller or lighter, due to the limited space in many places here, and this has been possible thanks to new technologies and techniques developed here, and so we hope that we can show this off to the rest of the world! We have the aim of making the Firegraphix brand a brand that we all can be proud of!
In the future, we would like to deliver Firegraphix products from our own factory in Vietnam to all over the world.
The story behind the creation of the stove
The main work that we do here at Kotobuki Sangyo is working with metal (iron, stainless steel, aluminium, and so on) to create items. For the first 30 years from our founding we worked with mid to large companies as a subcontractor, but with the IT Bubble collapse, we shifted to creating our own products, as well as OEM products. The first time we looked at making stoves was in 2017, where a friend introduced us to a stove maker that was looking for a company that could help with mass production.
From there we bought the rights to use the patent that the company held, and started the production of stoves, slowly learning more about the production and designs of stoves, eventually moving towards creating our own version of the wood burning stove. This finally came to be in the winter of 2019. The first stove that we made burnt wood even more beautifully than we thought it would, and we could feel a great sense of satisfaction and accomplishment.
From there, as many of you may realise, the pandemic struck, hitting Japan pretty hard from about February 2020, even more so than the Lehman bankruptcy in 2008. We spent about 8 months making and trialing 6 more prototypes, getting in depth into design, making it as best as we could. At the beginning, we started this out as a new venture for the company, but as we continued, I felt how healing the dancing of flames and fire can be, and this was the same for those around me. We want others to try it out.
At present, we are also in the process of developing a hybrid type and so on. We hope that you not only back this project but other future projects that we might have!
