cord.tokyo- A short video explaining the project and it's aims!!

Tokyo- A city full of wonder!

Tokyo is the worlds biggest metropolis, spanning a massive region of Japan. With this comes a multitude of things to do, to see, to discover! This is one of the many reasons why Japan has so many tourists that come to the city. Japan is a unique place to be in, with modern architecture blending with ancient buildings, weaving intricately but never it seems overpowering each other, and Tokyo is a great example of this. From places such as Sensoji in Asakusa keeping the old market street and large Temple, to places like Akihabara giving the techoholic a worship place of their own in the form of Electric Town. Tokyo is the best place to view this blending of old and new culture.

It's for these reasons that we wish to be of service to the visitors of Japan and especially Tokyo.

cord.tokyo-How does it run?

We currently work on a volunteer basis running out of a guesthouse called Tokyo Guest House. While staying here, we offer free tours to our guests! We wish for people that come to Japan, especially Tokyo, to have an experience in which they will want to come again. Thus one of the founding blocks for cord.tokyo was created.

From this we chose to go the route of creating a volunteer organisation rather than having guest pay a certain cost in order to use the service. For those that stay at the guest house we hand out a special reservation sheet, where guests can choose where they wish to go and what they want to do! One remark that we always get is that the guests that go along on the guided tour wish to give a small donation or small tip.

We have a current volunteer base of about 30 members!
Each volunteer is vetted and interviewed to make sure that both our visions fit for the aim of the group!
The main things we look for though, when vetting volunteers, are:
    1. A passion for learning and speaking English.
    2. A strive to keep a language that they've learnt alive.
    3. A want to meet foreigners and interact with them.
    4. A will to become part of a global community.
    5. A want to show Japanese hospitality.
    6. Finally, an urge to create fans of Tokyo!

A word from some of our guides

What do we wish to do??

The main aim for this project is to try to gather funds so that we can broaden out and help not just guests at our guesthouse, but all visitors to Tokyo! We want to help the tourism industry in Japan and help make Tokyo an amazing location to visit! Through this, we wish to make visitors Tokyo Fans!
As we stated before, Tokyo has a multitude of different sites and locations! As well as it being the world's biggest metropolis, it faces a great problem! The overabundance of information about the area. We want to help reduce this by trying to cut away the irrelevant or unnecessary information but at the same time creating an informative guided tour! By going around with locals you are able to discover many hidden things that you might not know about the Tokyo area!

What are the returns we have for you?

The returns we are currently thinking about are several!
What's more due to the style of this project, we'll be able to run tours from January for those that have backed the project! We will be able to make tours for anyone given that we have at least a weeks notice! The final dates we'll be accepting for tours will be the end of August.

Main Return

One set of returns is a really simple return for us to do! We want to offer our tour services to you!
For 3000 yen, we want you to choose a location, and we'll create a plan for about half a day for you to enjoy with us! This can be anything from Ueno and looking at the Park and surrounding museums and zoos, to Shinjuku finding hidden locations and the best places to shop!
For 5000 yen, we'll up it to 2 locations anywhere in Tokyo that you want to visit! Obviously this will mean the movement time is included between locations but even then we can talk about the plans as well as being able to answer other questions you might have along the way!
For 7000 yen, you can check out 3 different locations in Tokyo! We'll take you around and show the marvels of the city!

Alternatives and addons!

As for alternative returns to the ones we have they are as follows!

[Welcoming you to Japan service! (Tokyo Only)]One return that we're wishing to do is a pick-up service! Often those that come to Tokyo, struggle with navigating the subway system here. Because of this, it can be quite hard to know how exactly you can get to the place you're staying! Therefore we're offering to help you get to your accommodation by guiding you via the local subway and railways straight to check out!! As well as this, we'll even prepare an electronic card preloaded with 3000 yen to help you get anywhere you need straight from the airport! One extra thing is that you will get a special commemorative Suica IC card! These are cards that hold electronic money so you can swipe your way through the ticket gates as well as being able to charge it when it runs out!!! (This return can only be used by those that fly into Tokyo, and we can only unfortunately accommodate those that will be coming before 10pm)

[Guide Consultation!] Another service that we wish to offer is guide consultation! For some that come to Japan and Tokyo, they don't have a set plan for what they wish to do. We are offering to meet with you on your first day in Tokyo and create a plan that you might wish to follow on your own! Of course you're more than welcome to use our guided tour service but for some people that wish to go at their own pace or change locations it might be a great plan for you!

[Donation only] For those that just wish to help our organisation, we have opened a few return spaces for you to donate! In return, we'll send a personalised thanks mail!

Experiences!

We also want to offer the chance to show you a few different experiences that might show off some interesting or cultural sides of Japan and Tokyo!

[Traditional Sweet Making Viewing]-We'll take you to see traditional sweet making and you can learn about the processes and try some awesome traditional sweets!
[Kimono and Rickshaw Experience]- Have the chance to walk around in a Kimono or get taken around on a rickshaw all while learning about the different parts of the area! These can be put backed together to get a combined experience!

A extra bonus!!

For all the returns that are over 3000 yen, we'll be adding a bonus return! You'll will receive a special t-shirt that all our guides wear when on a tour! You can feel like part of the family or keep as a memorial of the time you spent with us!

About dates and things to watch out for

We will run most of the tours at the weekend due to being a largely volunteer operation. However it may be possible for us to accommodate a weekday tour! Please get in touch with us via japankurufunding@gldaily.com
As well as this, the travel costs for people that back the project aren't included and will be needed to paid for by the guest.

Start of Interpreter Volunteer Tour Guide
7 years ago, I travelled to both LA and Portland to study abroad and experience a home-stay. After staying with the host family, I came away with the feeling that I wished to become a host father. Due to this I became involved in the guest house business. While working, I realised something while I interacting with the guests from various countries. When it comes to the daily task of guiding foreigners around, Tokyo can be a difficult place to understand.
Because of this in order to increase the time people stay in Tokyo, I thought that support is necessary and I began to think about what I could do. Through this, I started the interpreter volunteer guided tour! After starting this work and reaching the limit of what I can do by myself, I set out and created cord.tokyo!
